You’ll get a repaired copy. Your original file stays as it is.

What does the tool keep?

ODT repair preserves visible italics and the document’s other formatting, including paragraph layout, bold text, and embedded images. It replaces conflicting italic layers with explicit formatting. The text preview is simplified; open the downloaded ODT to see the full layout.

Paste cleanup keeps text, italics, bold, underlining, strikethrough, links, headings, lists, and tables. It removes fonts, colors, images, and editor-specific markup to make the result easier to paste elsewhere.

Can it recover italics from an already broken paste?

Only if the paste still contains the original formatting layers. If another app has already turned everything italic and discarded those layers, the tool cannot know which words you meant to emphasize. Use the original ODT file, or copy directly from the original document.
